Yellowknife Education District No. 1 invites applications for the following term position:

 

Indigenous language Instructor Student Mentorship (EA)

Term until June 30, 2024

 École Sir John Franklin High School

Full-time (1.0) Term position

 

The Indigenous Language Student mentor is not required to have prior knowledge of the  Wiiliideh language, but must have an open mind and willingness to learn and be mentored. The Indigenous language instructor student mentorship position is an education assistant position.

 

-Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team 

-Willingness to be mentored by the classroom language instructor

-Willingness to enroll in Language classes 

-Willingness to participate in the Indigenous language instructor Employment Plan (ILIEP)

-Provide the Indigenous language Instructor with support implementing the Our Languages Curriculum.

-Willingness to participate and assist with cultural events and activities at the school level

-Using the gradual release of responsibility model, the ideal candidate will eventually be confident and competent to transition to an Indigenous language instructor position
